Happy Valentine's Day!

February 15, 2018

Every year society commercializes and profits off of this one day that is supposed to represent "love." But what is your definition of love? How do you define the intangible? Well, in this post I will define what true love is and how we should be operating in love with one another.

Although I do celebrate this holiday, I strongly believe love should be celebrated everyday and should not only be limited to romantic relationships. As a Christian woman, I fully understand that love is much more than getting butterflies in your stomach or the exchanging of gifts with your mate. Love is not limited to or based on feelings alone, but is rather defined by the example set before us over 2,000 years ago on the cross by a man named Jesus Christ. I however, know Him personally as Savior, Comforter, Lawyer, Healer, Redeemer, Friend and the Love of my life.

If you are in a relationship or married, I want you to challenge yourself to make intentional actions that display selflessness, just as Christ did for us. The Word of God states that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). He pursued us at our worst and still loves us beyond our imperfections! His Word says that for God so LOVED the world, that He GAVE His only begotten Son and that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). When we accept Him into our hearts and make Him Lord over our lives, the blood of His sacrifice purifies us and reconciles us back to God! Therefore, in regards to the biblical definition of love, we see that God is indeed LOVE (1 John 4:8) and that love compels us to DO something; it requires constant forgiveness. Love is not a noun; it is a verb. It is a daily decision to make intentional selfless action without expecting anything in return. It is unconditional. So couples, I ask you: Are you loving your partner the way God sets the standard for us to love them? Selah... (Pause and Reflect).

If you want to test yourself to see if you are displaying the characteristics of love in your life towards others, I challenge you to put your name in the place of "love" when you read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7... I'm paraphrasing:

"Love (your name) is patient

Love (your name) is kind

It does not envy (I am not envious)

It does not boast, It is not proud (I am not prideful)

It is not rude (I am not rude)

It is not self-seeking (I am not selfish)

It keeps no record of being wronged" (I don't hold grudges)

etc...

As for my fellow singles, I need you to know that singleness is a gift from God! It is not a curse, but is rather a huge blessing. You are not alone in your journey. I have been single for 4 years now and I have finally come to a place of fulfillment and contentment in Christ. God has a purpose and calling on your life! There are so many amazing things God wants for you to accomplish as an individual before He joins you to someone else. Believe it or not, but the person you marry will have a HUGE impact on your destiny. They will either enhance or distract you from your purpose. Be patient and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, not your unstable emotions. In the New Testament, the apostle Paul actually encourages singleness because when you become involved with someone, your loyalty is divided between serving God and pleasing your mate, which can be a difficult task (1 Corinthians 7: 32-33). Use this time to experience God in a way that you will never be able to experience Him if you were married. Know who you are and who you belong to. Once you fully grasp that you are royalty and you belong to the Most High King, you won't settle for peasants and counterfeits!

Lastly, I want to encourage everyone who reads this post to give your hearts to Christ. No one can or will ever love you the way He does! I love you all! Enjoy my 1st official Lyric Video: "My Heart Belongs to You." ♥
